Critical Minerals Observatory Launch

Hotel de Colonies Rue des Croisades 6-10, Brussels, Belgium

The Critical Minerals Observatory is a new initiative from the European Network of Corporate Observatory (ENCO); a knowledge hub (critical space) to exchange ideas, resources and develop collaborative research. This Observatory looks at the strategies of transnational corporations and governments (in the Global North) to secure supplies of critical minerals in the name of the energy transition. The launch of the Observatory will take place during the Raw Materials Week, to expose the necessity to monitor the implementation of the CRMA and its negative impacts on communities and the environment. During the presentation, we will discuss  the corporate impunity of one of the largest mining companies worldwide: Rio Tinto. We will hear the voices of affected communities in Madagascar and Serbia. The invited speakers are: Zo Randriamaro, the founder and Coordinator of the Research and Support Center for Development Alternatives – Indian Ocean (CRAAD-OI),  based in Madagascar. Jovan Rajik (Renewables and Environmental Regulatory Institute, Serbia) Steven Rolf, researcher at the (De)Globalization (MDG) research team at the University of Sussex and King’s College London Moderation by Olivier Petitjean (Observatoire des Multinationales, ENCO)   Previous registration required at the following link.

The ODG celebrates its 25th anniversary

La Nau Bòstik Carrer Ferran Turné, 1-11, Barcelona, Barcelona, Spain

The Observatory of Debt in Globalization turns 25 years old! On June 7th, we invite you to join us at our celebration party, at Nau Bòstik. We would like to share this special occasion with the people who have made the past 25 years of research and activism for the ODG possible, and also with those of you who will support us in the future. You are all invited! See you at Nau Bòstik, on June 7th, with a full programme. We will start with breakfast and a welcoming speech by Gemma Tarafa and Jesús Carrión, two senior members of the ODG. The first activity will be the panel "Past, present and future of the struggles against debts", featuring Iolanda Fresnillo (one of the ODG's founders), Virginia Soler (young climate activist), Brid Brennan (Transnational Institute) and with the participation online of Lidy Nacpil (coordinator of the Asian Peoples Movement on Debt and Development). We will have Oye Sherman as an MC for our "Historical Vermouth", where we will reminisce on these 25 years with some sense of humour. Later, the activities include lunch: we will have some popular paella cooked by our colleagues from La PAH, who are also celebrating their birthday! Lastly, we will have a musical bingo, a concert by La Cantina, and La Niña Mai DJ will end the event.
