SUMMARY:Diálogos de saberes "Territorios y Energías"

SUMMARY:WEBINAR | Urban mining\, an alternative to extractivism?
DESCRIPTION:The rise of demand for critical minerals and\, specifically\, rare earths has accelerated the race for raw materials\, and it reproduces the colonial patterns of land grabbing. Is urban mining an alternative to extractivism? We discuss these issues with Martín Lallana\, researcher on Ecosocial Transition\, Felix Best Agorvor\, from recycling start-up 5 Seconds Connect Ghana\, and Clàudia Bosch\, from SETEM. Moderated by ODG’s researcher\, Júlia Martí. Organized with the Institute for Policy Studies. \nIf you could not join the session\, you can watch it here: \n \nThis webinar was co-funded by the European Union. Its contents are the sole responsibility of the Observatori del Deute en la Globalització (ODG) and do not necessarily reflect the views of the European Union. \n \nCo-funded by:

SUMMARY:Critical Minerals Observatory Launch
DESCRIPTION:The Critical Minerals Observatory is a new initiative from the European Network of Corporate Observatory (ENCO); a knowledge hub (critical space) to exchange ideas\, resources and develop collaborative research. This Observatory looks at the strategies of transnational corporations and governments (in the Global North) to secure supplies of critical minerals in the name of the energy transition. \nThe launch of the Observatory will take place during the Raw Materials Week\, to expose the necessity to monitor the implementation of the CRMA and its negative impacts on communities and the environment. During the presentation\, we will discuss  the corporate impunity of one of the largest mining companies worldwide: Rio Tinto. We will hear the voices of affected communities in Madagascar and Serbia. \nThe invited speakers are: \n\nZo Randriamaro\, the founder and Coordinator of the Research and Support Center for Development Alternatives – Indian Ocean (CRAAD-OI)\,  based in Madagascar.\nJovan Rajik (Renewables and Environmental Regulatory Institute\, Serbia)\nSteven Rolf\, researcher at the (De)Globalization (MDG) research team at the University of Sussex and King’s College London\n\nModeration by Olivier Petitjean (Observatoire des Multinationales\, ENCO) \n  \nPrevious registration required at the following link. \nThis activity was co-funded by the European Union. Its contents are the sole responsibility of the Observatori del Deute en la Globalització (ODG) and do not necessarily reflect the views of the European Union.

SUMMARY:The ODG celebrates its 25th anniversary
DESCRIPTION:The Observatory of Debt in Globalization turns 25 years old! On June 7th\, we invite you to join us at our celebration party\, at Nau Bòstik.\nWe would like to share this special occasion with the people who have made the past 25 years of research and activism for the ODG possible\, and also with those of you who will support us in the future. You are all invited! See you at Nau Bòstik\, on June 7th\, with a full programme. \n \nWe will start with breakfast and a welcoming speech by Gemma Tarafa and Jesús Carrión\, two senior members of the ODG. The first activity will be the panel “Past\, present and future of the struggles against debts”\, featuring Iolanda Fresnillo (one of the ODG’s founders)\, Virginia Soler (young climate activist)\, Brid Brennan (Transnational Institute) and with the participation online of Lidy Nacpil (coordinator of the Asian Peoples Movement on Debt and Development). \nWe will have Oye Sherman as an MC for our “Historical Vermouth”\, where we will reminisce on these 25 years with some sense of humour. Later\, the activities include lunch: we will have some popular paella cooked by our colleagues from La PAH\, who are also celebrating their birthday!
